elicity Huffman (Bree) does her best to rescue this gendericious meandering about a transsexual wannabe who gets saddled with her runaway son (she’s really dear old dad, obviously) as a traveling companion. But once Huffman’s preening novelty wears out, we’re stuck with a corny road movie-cum-situation comedy that includes a painful meet-the-parents strech. True, there are moments of touching mother/father-son poignancy, and yet director Duncan Tucker can’t milk them into anything substantive. Kevin Zegers as son Toby is sincere but predictable. Like the movie. (Nice performance by Elizabeth Peña as a therapist).
