legant adaptation of John Le Carré’s Kenya novel, with enough UK government and drug company corruption to last two African lifetimes. Political message aside, Ralph Fiennes is magnificent (and fiercely modest) in the lead and “City of God” director Fernando Meirelles, a Brazilian with affectionate Third World eyes, surrounds him with a slew of able bodies. Rachel Weisz took home a supporting actress Oscar. Not bad for only 35 minutes of work. Fewer African clichés than ring-true characters, a rarity.
