erry Gilliam bites off more than he can chew in this flat reworking of Grimm’s Fairy Tales as seen through the mischievously enterprising brothers, Jacob (Matt Damon) and Wilhelm (the late Heath Ledger). Damon in particular is miscast, but the fault is Gilliam’s: He’s working far too hard to force his creativity into a “cool” demographic that works for parents and kids alike. Not surprisingly, the movie turns into a pretty but hapless hybrid. Monica Bellucci has screeching fun as the Mirror Queen.
