Morrow Cookbooks, 1992. 96 pages.

his tiny superhero of a cookbook was packed in an overstuffed backpack, hauled overseas for a year, then swiped by a shameless fellow expat. Copy numero 2 is closely guarded. Only 47 recipes cover the bare basics of Italian cooking — antipasti, pasta, fish, meat, breads, desserts. Results are simple, but elegant. Beautiful full-color photos inspire. Weight, temperature and measure conversion page has saved the day more than once.

About the Author:

Kate Swoger is too-rapidly approaching middle age. Following a young woman’s not-so-erotic journey from Montreal to Middle Europe, she settled in Toronto, where she works for CBC Radio. On her last birthday, she decided to write a short story for every month of the year, in an effort to become a published author. Her first story was recently printed in the Vancouver magazine Front, making her instantly immortal.
