Director Kevin Conran delivers yet another Saturday matinee remake. Joe “Sky Captain” Sullivan (an oddly subdued Jude Law) and indomitable reporter Polly Perkins (breathless Gwyneth Paltrow) are dolled up accessories in a pseudo-30s digital fantasy about fascism-fighting. Polly loves Joe; only Joe can save the world; airplanes and dirigibles are action’s cotton candy, etc. It’s pretty to look at, but the characters fluff and droop. Only funky Angelina Jolie as an eye-patched British colonial majorette called “Franky” gives this high-octane extravaganza a pulse. She should wear them more often.
