Situated along Via Tiburtina, one of the ancient Roman consular roads, this restaurant is beside Carsoli’s train station. Arrival by the slow train from Rome is an attractive option if the weather is iffy or one prefers a pre-lunch read and an after-lunch snooze. L’Angolo d’Abruzzo offers delicious cuisine and lovely service. A wide range of appetizers includes especially good fried sheep’s cheese and pumpkin flowers crisp in their light batter. The baccalà with wild greens and pink peppercorns is also excellent, as is tripe in tomato sauce. Appetizing local cheeses and cured meats are a cut above the usual. Pastas like homemade pappardelle (wide noodles) are doused with truffles or wild mushrooms when they are in season in late fall and winter. There are decadent desserts, but don’t miss the homemade biscuits served with cherry wine. Pastas range €7-12.
